What happened when at the visa stage? Did you pay anything? Did Total shouldered all the expenses at the moment? I received an employment letter & accepted it already, hopefully & positively that this is not another scam. So far all of my research regarding everything is legit & I don't get any advice for me to pay for anything... yet.

Is fake, when you send the letter, he or they ask about a quota, remember it, any company shall not required you kind of pay or quota for visa, insurance etc, they must pay everything, specially a visa formalities and must be by an embassy or related.
