Hip replacement surgery is a procedure in which a doctor removes a hip joint and replaces it with an artificial joint generally made from metal and a component of plastic known as prosthesis. Usually , hip replacement surgery is the last option and is done when all other treatment options have failed. This surgery helps a patient get back to leading his/her normal life by relieving the immense pain and increasing mobility.

The traditional method of this surgery was to make a single large opening in a person's body and implant the metal equipment. However, advances in medical science have lead to a

new procedure being used, wherein the metal joint is implanted only by making one or two short incisions in a patient's body.
