Gabions are hexagonally netted wire boxes which when filled with stones may serve the purpose of a retaining wall for river training, erosion control, dam weir, among other uses. Reno-mattress is also made of netted wires and only differ from gabions in terms of dimension. Renos have heights below 0.5m while the minimum height of a gabion is 0.5m.
