Health and Safety Environment

SAFETY

Definition Relative freedom from danger, risk, or threat of harm, injury, or loss to personnel and/or property, whether caused deliberately or by accident. See also security.
The benefits of maintaining a safe work environment are many, but first and foremost, safety is about what you can do to protect your workers. “It’s the right thing to do. Employers should send their workers home in the same condition they came in.

CONSTRUCTION SITES SAFETY (Environment)

Constructions workers must always keep their mind on the job. Failure to do so could result in the serious injury of themselves or others. Safety equipment may differ from job to job, although basics like hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and safety shoes should be worn at all times. Workers must stay properly hydrated and know the locations of water in case of fire or a chemical burn. The use of illicit drugs and alcohol is strictly prohibited on a construction site.

Construction sites should be kept clean. Keeping the work site free of debris, garbage and rubble will improve work efficiency and reduce the chances of an injury due to falling or tripping. Workers should be especially conscious of sharp objects, such as nails, screws or glass.

Workers must be properly trained in the jobs they've been assigned. This includes operators of all power tools as well as heavy machinery operators. Only the drivers of heavy machinery should ride on the vehicles, in the positions designated by the manufacturer. People who are working on the ground near heavy machinery must be sure that machinery operators have visual contact with them at all times. Machinery should never be fueled, lubricated or adjusted while it is running.
Safety Equipment

Clothing

• Do not wear loose clothing.
• Restrain long hair.
• Remove loose jewelry, such as necklaces and bracelets.
• Wear safety shoes or boots, preferably with steel toes and shanks. Sneakers are
also acceptable.

Hard Hats

• Wear a hard hat while framing, shingling, or when required by the supervisor.
• Use a strap when working overhead to prevent your hard hat from falling on workers below.
• Wear plastic hard hats when working near electrical lines. Metal hard hats and bump caps conduct electricity and are
shock hazards.

Other Safety Equipment

• Wear safety glasses when working with any power tool and when recommended by the supervisor.
• Wear ear protection when working with power tools for a prolonged period of time.
• Wear dust masks when installing insulation, sanding or when instructed by a supervisor.
• Hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, and dust masks are provided at the site.
